How to use the payment fee calculator
Enter the transaction amount, the percentage fee, and the fixed fee charged per transaction by your payment provider. The calculator estimates the total processing fee, the net payout after that fee, and the effective fee rate. Use the rate from your provider agreement rather than assuming every provider charges the same amount.
Payment processing fee formula
Processing fee = (Transaction amount × Percentage fee ÷ 100) + Fixed fee
Net payout is the transaction amount minus the estimated processing fee. The percentage component changes with the transaction amount, while the fixed component is charged per transaction under the fee structure entered.
Example: estimate a card processing fee
For a $100 transaction with a 2.9% fee and a $0.30 fixed charge, the percentage fee is $2.90. Add the $0.30 fixed fee for a total processing fee of $3.20. The estimated net payout after this fee is $96.80, before any other adjustments.
Why actual payment fees may differ
Payment providers can apply different rates based on country, card type, domestic or international transactions, currency conversion, payment method, plan, and transaction volume. Some providers may also apply additional dispute, refund, or payout fees. Check the current pricing and agreement that applies to your account.
Use the net payout in your pricing
Processing fees reduce the amount you receive from a sale. Include them when estimating order-level profitability, alongside product cost, shipping, marketplace fees, and advertising. The ecommerce profit calculator can help combine several common costs into one per-order estimate.
